Youth Academic Enrichment Programs
Our Youth Academic Enrichment Programs provide kids in our community with educational support which empowers them to achieve academic success.
After School Program
Belong! partners with Cunningham Park Elementary School to offer After School support to K-6th grade students. Volunteers work weekly with the same small groups of children to provide homework help and extra learning in mathematics and reading.
With the close of schools in March, Belong! moved quickly to reinvent the After School Program. Using Zoom, kids and volunteers meet online twice weekly for small group tutoring and large group math, reading and science activities.
Belong! is recruiting tutors to help support our Virtual After School Program on zoom this fall.
Tutors work in pairs with small groups of 3-4 children to provide academic support in math and reading. Belong! provides training and resources, volunteers provide enthusiasm and time –1.5-2 hours per week from October – December.
Join our team of dedicated volunteers and help make a lasting impact on young lives. Contact firstname.lastname@example.org for more information.
Summer Academic Enrichment Camp
Belong! offers math, science and reading classes and enrichment activities during a three-week summer camp where students can thrive, practice healthy behaviors, and improve their educational outcomes. All kids enrolled in the summer camp receive a daily free breakfast and lunch provided by Belong! in partnership with the Fairfax County Summer Meals for Kids program.
Despite the COVID-limitations of not being able to gather in person, Belong! offered kids a variety of opportunities to improve their academics, engage with art and STEM projects and have fun together virtually:
- Our 4-week Zoom Summer Camp was an academic enriching platform. Kids were tutored in math and reading and introduced to a variety of STEM and art projects.
- In Book Club, kids came together to listen, read and discuss the award winning book The Breadwinner.
- In Coding Camp, kids were introduced to basic computer science principles while programming a maze video game.
- During the 4-day Nutrition Camp (put on in partnership with Inova Healthy Plate Club), kids learned about healthy foods, how to read labels and how to make healthy snacks.
