JOB DESCRIPTION – Communications Manager
 

Part-time | 10–12 hours per week | Flexible & Remote Options Available (metro DC area residence required)

Belong exists to provide compassionate mentorship to underserved children and youth in our community—sharing God’s love while fostering personal growth, academic success, and a true sense of belonging.

Position Summary

We are seeking a part-time Communications Manager to lead and implement Belong’s internal and external communications strategy. This role will shape how we share stories, engage our community, and elevate the visibility of our mission. The Communications Manager will oversee marketing and publicity efforts, create compelling content, and ensure consistent messaging across all platforms. This position reports directly to the Executive Director.

Key Responsibilities

  • Digital Presence: Manage and enhance the Belong website to reflect evolving needs and priorities.

  • Social Media & Online Platforms: Oversee Belong’s presence on social media and nonprofit directories (Candid, Great Nonprofits).

  • Storytelling: Collect and produce student success stories (photos and narratives) each spring.

  • Fundraising Support: Lead communications for fundraising campaigns and donor stewardship, including thank-you letters and recognition.

  • Publications: Create the annual report and (generally monthly) e-newsletters (via Constant Contact).

  • Marketing Materials: Design and update flyers, event promotions, postcards, and other collateral.

  • Brand Consistency: Ensure all communications reflect Belong’s mission, values, and visual identity.

Desired Skills & Qualifications

  • Strong commitment to Belong’s mission and values.

  • Exceptional writing, editing, and communication skills.

  • Proven ability to engage and mobilize others through creative storytelling and innovative outreach.

  • Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, or related field—or equivalent experience.

  • Creativity and design skills, with an eye for compelling visuals.

  • Proficiency in MS Office and Constant Contact; familiarity with Canva or other design tools a plus.

  • Highly organized, resourceful, and able to work independently while collaborating with staff and volunteers.

  • Must reside in the DC-Metro Area and be available for several in-person meetings in Vienna, VA each month

  • Knowledge of the Vienna/Fairfax community is helpful but not required.
