About Belong!

Belong! is a faith-based 501(c)(3) local non-profit organization based in Vienna, VA. Our mission is to demonstrate God's love in action by providing or facilitating access to services that empower and equip the under-served in our community through education, community engagement, and other essential services. About the position

These are full-time, paid positions. We are looking for three interns who will work for nine weeks, from 6/5/23 to 8/4/23.

 

As a summer intern with Belong!, most of your responsibilities will be in support of our three-week, play-based, academic, summer program for rising 1st-7th graders and our one-week collaborative community Vacation Bible School. Most of our students are English language learners who are behind in one or more subjects.

 

Interns are paid $13/hour and work 40 hours/week.

 

Some responsibilities are likely to be

 

  • Leading a station during the summer program (science, art, drama, writing, reading, math, or recreation)

  • Tutoring students

  • Helping with the daily set-up and break-down of the program, including giving directions to volunteers

  • Planning for your and other stations by coming up with and finding activities related to the themes and subjects

  • Preparing materials by cutting, laminating, hole-punching, etc.

  • Calling and emailing volunteers’ references

  • Planning events that involve the kids and/or their families

  • Organizing and cataloguing supplies

  • Researching similar organizations in other geographic areas to help Belong! grow

  • Connecting with organizations to bring in guest speakers for camp

  • Creating marketing materials

  • Data entry

  • Driving to pick up supplies

What We Are Looking For

 

Interns must be 18 or older and should be about to begin or in college. Our interns must enjoy working with kids and building respectful relationships with them. An ideal candidate is organized, creative, adaptable, responsible, and friendly. Our interns take initiative in creating and improving activities and events and are comfortable acting as leaders with children. Speaking Spanish is a plus.

 

Interns from previous years told us they were able to grow in the following areas:

  • Leadership, particularly in terms of working with kids

  • Planning, including preparing activities and having backup plans

  • Writing and marketing

  • Excel and Google Sheets

  • Teamwork and delegating

  • Event planning

  • Teaching
